Having to give up your pets is one of the saddest experiences, but sometimes life makes us make such sad decisions.
Life is full of mystery and sometimes old friends that we lost come back to us when we expect them the least, like the pit bull in our story who returned to his owners after one decade.
The Smith family from Honolulu, took in a pit bull puppy named Zoe twelve years ago.
The pooch only had one eye, some people got scared from that but to the family Zoe was such a beloved member.
“She loved any dog, any person, any other kind of animals, you know cats, dogs, and she’s just so tame and gentle,” mom Sherrie Smith told KHON2.
The Smith’s had to give up on their beloved pet in 2009 after they moved and weren’t able to find a new home that would allow them to keep a pit bull.
They had to make the heartbreaking decision and find their dog a new home, unfortunately they lost contact with the dog’s new owners.
“Over the years, we’ve always talked about her and we’ve always wondered what happened to her,” Sherrie said.
After 12 long years the family got a call that they never expected to get.
The Hawaiian Humane Society contacted them, they found Zoe who was quite old now and they found no other identification on her than the microchip that listed the Smiths as the owner.
The family went to get their beloved dog, sadly she didn’t recognize them but they wanted to help.
The family searched and contacted local groups for lost dogs on Facebook hoping to get Zoe back with her second owners.
Unfortunately they realized that they will have to give up the pooch as well.
“Same situation happened with them,” Sherrie’s daughter Ashley told KHON2. “They had to move and a lot of places wouldn’t accept pit bulls, so they had to re-home her.
After a bit more research they realized that no one was looking for her, they wanted to take her themselves and bring the pooch home after 12 years to her original family.
But there still was a complication: their house was not pet friendly, but their kind landlord decided to make an exception and the pit bull was finally welcomed in a stable home.
The family was so grateful for having their pet back.
“It’s like a full circle. She came back to us,” Sherrie said.
Awww such a sweet story, life truly is full of surprises.
