Dogs have the ability to sense when someone is in danger and that never stops surprising us, old Lassie put up a show that turned right: it’s normal that when a dog finds a person who is in great danger they will run to get help.
Recently something similar happened and a dog is hailed as a life saving hero because he alerted his owner about a man who apparently fell through the ice.
Thomas Walsh, from Stoneham, Massachusetts, yesterday was out walking near Quarter Mile Pond with his German Shepherd, Diesel.
The canine suddenly started to draw his attention to the pond, there he noticed a man struggling in the cold water after falling through the ice.
Walsh had his ear buds on while taking the walk so he didn’t notice or heard the man at all. If Diesel wasn’t there who knows what would happen.
“He’s the hero today, because without him, seeing or hearing him I would have just kept walking,” Walsh told Boston 25 News. “The dog alerted me that there was something going on in that water.”
After getting alerted for the danger, Walsh ran and saved the man, he together with another nearby stranger used a large branch to pull the drowning man to the shore.
Stoneham Fire Department members arrived at the scene and told them they did the right thing.
“These actions helped to save a man’s life this afternoon and are nothing short of heroic,” Chief Matthew Grafton said in a press release..
“It was rewarding,” Walsh said. “It’s just good to know that you can help someone in need.”
But none of that would have taken place if Diesel wasn’t there, so Walsh gave his smart dog all the credit.
“He’s the hero today, nobody else,” he told Boston 25 News.
Smart furry is truly a hero.
